Well, at the request of a reader who received emails from this company, we took a look into this suspicious job offer to see what we could find out. Here Is What We Discovered About The Emails!
Our reader initially received 2 similar recruiting type emails from 2 different senders. 1 email came from someone going by the name Jason Sharma using the email address; info@podchurch.com and the other email came from someone going by the name James Brown using the email address; stacy@studio3south.com, however both emails reply-to email address was: hrdep@chrhiring.com. I found it interesting that the domain chrhiring.com was just registered on 1/22/2019 and hosted on an IP addresses in the Netherlands and Germany however the domain just happens to redirect to https://www.theladders.com/ which is a legitimate job and career website that has been online since 2006! Hmmm.. now that’s a red flag!
Here is a copy of those emails:

HR Manager
ME Company
We noticed some obvious grammar errors and phrases used that suggests perhaps these people may be Eastern European! We also noted that Ruth states the position is remote so the position is a work at home/online job that pays $3050 – $4450 monthly and they provide health insurance after 3 months of employment, 401k sharing
plan, paid illness and personal days. Sounds too good to be true doesn’t it? A BIG red flag!
What We Discovered About The Company AND The Website!
Here’s a screenshot of the “About Us” page at http://me-comp.com:
You would think that a “large independent oil and natural gas company based in Chicago and founded in 2012” would easily have information on google search that could be found about it ..right? Well there isn’t any! The address of the main office just shows an office building with available offices for rent. There is nothing that ties ME Company to that address, and the phone number listed does not come up as a business number for ME Company either. Our search found that the phone number actually belonged to a hispanic woman!
Our next search took us to the State of Illinois official government website for corporations and LLC registrations and …as we suspected… there is no business by the name ME Company registered in the State of Illinois!
And the website http://me-comp.com? It was just registered on 11/7/2018 for 1 year by the same person that registered “memailup.com” that we mentioned earlier. The person’s name who registered these domains is shown to be associated with over 100 domain registrations under different addresses, and different email addresses so the guy is either an agency or someone else is just fraudulently using his credentials to register domains.
Our Conclusion
With the information we learned about ME Company and what we know about all the various job scams we have reported over the years, there is no doubt that this Assistant manager job offer is yet another scam engineered by Eastern European scammers in order to get their grimey hands on your money and possibly steal your personal information as well! The latest trend popular with scammers lately is having their victims accept and deposit fake checks then withdraw the cash and convert it to bitcoin then send it to a bitcoin wallet which cannot be traced or recovered! Don’t become a victim!
What To Do If You Are A Victim
If you have fell victim to an employment scam like this, you need to contact your bank immediately and close your account IF you have provided your account information to the scammers. Next file a police report with your local authorities and then file a complaint with the FBI’s internet crime center at http://www.ic3.gov/
Also if you received any checks that you have not deposited, turn those checks over to the police as well so that the account holder can be contacted. The account holder was likely a victim of a data breach and their bank account details was stolen in the breach.
If you provided your personal information like a W-9 or tax form with your social security # birth date etc , you need to contact the 3 credit bureaus- TransUnion, Equifax and Experian, and place a fraud alert on your report. These criminals can steal your identity, sell your personal details on the dark web who may try and obtain credit in your name. Doing this will alert you for at least 90 days about any suspicious activity.
In the hands of a thief, just your name, address, Social Security number, bank account details or date of birth, can be used over and over months- even years down the road to:
Open new lines of credit
Write fraudulent checks against your bank account
Seek medical attention
Drain savings and retirement accounts
Provide an alias when arrested
Get a job or file false tax returns
Get Payday Loans in your name
Obtain service agreements for cellular service or utilities
Obtain Government Documents such as a drivers license or passport
And MORE!
That’s why I highly recommend you get some sort of ongoing identity theft protection such as the services offered through companies like LifeLock-Visit Their Website Here or Identity Force-visit their website here! LifeLock and Identity Force are both reputable companies that monitors your accounts and alerts and protects you from identity theft.
