CBIZ Inc Independent Auditor Job Scam! Stolen Identity!
Last week several readers reported receiving MULTIPLE suspicious emails from several different email addresses attempting to recruit job seekers as an Independent auditor with a company called CBIZ. Some reported receiving as many as 9 separate emails over a span of approximately 5 days! If the sender’s names and email addresses wasn’t enough to recognize these emails as coming from scammers, the actual content should have, since they were crammed full of grammar and spelling errors!

Stolen Company Credentials
Did you notice that the domain the email above came from was cbiz.us.com and the name used is Tara Becker? Well if you look at the “Job Details” attachment you’ll notice the domain they list as their website is cbiz.com not cbiz.us.com.
We checked all this out and found that “cbiz.us.com” is apparently being used by the scammers for email purposes only and was just created on 4/3/2017 for one year. Obviously by judging the grammar and sentence structuring, whoever wrote the above email is not from the US, and is likely Russian or Eastern European where most of these type of scams originate.
Cbiz.com is the actual website for a legitimate company call CBIZ Inc. which has approximately 56 offices located all over the USA. Below is a little information about the company found on the website.
CBIZ is associated with Mayer Hoffman McCann P.C. (MHM), a national, independent CPA firm through an alternative practice structure. The two companies are separate and independent legal entities that work together to serve clients’ business needs. CBIZ, Inc. and its Accounting, Tax and Advisory companies are not licensed CPA firms. CBIZ offers tax, consulting and advisory, and non-attest accounting services. MHM offers audit and all other attest services. CBIZ and MHM are members of Kreston International — an association of separate and independent legal entities.
The scammers is not only using the legitimate company name and website for their fraudulent job scheme but they have stolen one of CBIZ’s actual employees name and credentials to appear legitimate to their potential victims! Anyone who checks out the CBIZ.com website will find a Tara Becker listed as an Area Sales Manager for the company (not an HR manager) and her actual email address is NOT tara-becker@cbiz.us.com.
CBIZ.com also has a link on their website that takes visitors to their Jobs and Careers page at cbiz.jobs.net which lists all their current openings available at their various locations and guess what? None of the jobs or careers they offer is a work at home Independent Auditors position!
CBIZ Inc. and some of their employees information has been targeted and stolen by scammers in order to appear legitimate and lure potential victims into a money mule scam or fake check cashing scam!
The company has been contacted and made aware of this scam.
What To Do If You Are A Victim
If you have fell victim to an employment scam like this, you need to contact your bank immediately and close your account IF you have provided your account information to the scammers. Next file a police report with your local authorities and then file a complaint with the FBI’s internet crime center at http://www.ic3.gov/
If you provided your personal information like completing a W-9 for taxes, your drivers license, passport, social security# birthdate etc , you need to contact the 3 credit bureaus- TransUnion, Equifax and Experian, and place a fraud alert on your report. These criminals can steal your identity and may try and obtain credit in your name. Doing this will alert you for at least 90 days about any suspicious activity.
In the hands of a thief, just your name, address, Social Security number or date of birth, can be used over and over months- even years down the road to:
Open new lines of credit
Seek medical attention
Drain savings and retirement accounts
Provide an alias when arrested
Get a job or file false tax returns
Get Payday Loans in your name
Obtain service agreements for cellular service or utilities
Obtain Government Documents such as a drivers license or passport
And MORE!
That’s why I highly recommend you get some sort of ongoing identity theft protection such as the services offered through companies like LifeLock-Visit Their Website Here or Identity Force-visit their website here! LifeLock and Identity Force are both reputable companies that monitors your accounts and alerts and protects you from identity theft.
